Eleven

Creator Journals 8/9/25

I’m proud of the work I’ve done, and the work I’m doing. Chapter 9 is well underway, and I believe this story will have 11 chapters. That feels like a strange number. It feels more proper to end things on an even number.

“Why is that?” I ask myself, and there is no answer. I think that ending on an odd number is the right thing to do. Besides, 11 correlates with the card “Strength” in tarot, and that card actually connects pretty well with the themes of the story. A fine lady and a powerful lion, aligning themselves to find a new degree of spiritual power. I think the lady is Kiyo, and the lion is Ralgar, but you could also probably reverse them just as easily.

I’m contemplating chapter 1. I think it’s a bit slow when compared to the rest of the book. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I want to grab my readers, so I’m thinking of ways I might be able to make it more enticing. I want it to feel casual and low-key. I want the action that comes soon after to feel like a surprise. I’m not sure what to do, but I’m thinking about it.

And I’m thinking about you, dear reader. Always.

Today’s writing tip: Don’t be in too much of a hurry to talk about your story. If you discuss it too much, you may feel as though the story has already been told. You’ll lose that all-important burning desire to write it down.

Success! You're on the list.
