WD 81 “Jack of All Trades”

A poem inspired by The Muse of Cold Earth.

Jack of All Trades

And though there was nothing to gain by entering

The rim of the bottle

There was so much to lose, and I needed to lose

To see you from that perfect angle, staring up from the carpet

You, who whose arms are like barbed wire as they constrict me in a hug

You, whose voice is like, a thought unconsidered, a dream that shocks me into watchfulness

You, whose mortal enemies are the people walking down the street, who you’ve never met

A used blender bought at a discount

A recently purchased canister of play-doh

Waiting to be mixed with all the colors of the rainbow and left out to dry

I’ll pace around your apartment in worn down sneakers, but eventually I’ll enter

To tell you my joke

And, if I make you laugh I’ll call that

Self love
