Romantasying

Creator Journals 11/21/25

I’ve been reading Rebecca Yarros’ “Fourth Wing”. I realized I’m not really very familiar with the modern “Romantasy” movement, so I wanted to learn, and I’m enjoying myself. It’s definitely a little bit cheesy like a romance novel, but that’s not a bad thing. So far the world-building and characters are fairly decent.

There are a lot of sub-genres of fantasy I’m not very familiar with, so I think I’d like to educate myself. I feel like my writing is a little closer to this kind of thing than say Tolkien, but I’m definitely leaning a little more in the direction of The Witcher series and Japanese Isekai.

Maybe I’ll write a romance novel eventually. That could be fun. Sounds just as satisfying as something like progression fantasy or LitRPG.

A lot of my prep writing for Eversolstice has been physical pen and paper. That’s how I usually script out longer conversations. Tomorrow, I hope to start transcribing it to digital. I’m excited!

Keep fantasizing, kids!

Today’s writing tip: Try to write a story that you hate. See what happens in your body. See what happens in your heart.
