I spent most of the day driving around for work. Tomorrow I’m going to sleep and I’m going to sleep so hard.
So, what has my literary journey looked like today?
Well, I brought the Hellboy Omnibus to work with me and didn’t look at it at all.
I thought a lot about Vulture. She’s kind of challenging. Vulture is a character I invented a few years ago, and she means a whole lot to me, but I think I’m having some trouble transferring her narratively. How do I represent her correctly? What do I make her talk like? Think like?
How do I make her real?
I’ve never adapted a character that previously existed without a narrative and meant this much to me before.
I don’t know. Maybe I need to approach it with conscious thought. Maybe I need to dig down and find some deeply buried emotions. The formula just doesn’t feel right yet.
I should meditate on it.
Today’s writing tip: Get closer to your uncomfortable feelings. Welcome them. They make good fuel for your narrative pyre.
If you didn’t read the first chapter of my book, I suggest doing it! It’s good!
