My wife’s cat passed yesterday. We ended up having to put him down very early in the morning. She’s had that cat for about 18 years. I’ve known him for over ten. It hit us really hard.
I wrote out a heartfelt mini-essay about the complexity of grief, and then I deleted it. I’m not sure it’s something I feel like talking about on this blog.
Instead, I’d like to talk about “The Cause of Death”, my dark-fantasy horror mini-novel. I’ve got the first chapter done at 4k words. I’m going for nine chapters. Wish me luck! If it all goes according to plan I’ll be about half done by the end of this week, and spend half of October revising and marketing.
Happy end of September. May October be a better month.
Today’s writing tip: Write characters who believe things that you do not believe. Write them authentically as extant entities and not straw-men to be defeated.
