I’m 2k words into chapter 11, the final chapter. My outline is very long. I usually use letters to mark the board-strokes points on my chapter outlines, and I’m out to double H. There is a whole big series of dramatic fight scenes before the dramatic climax. In highschool, I wrote a novel where the final battle was over 75 pages, so I know I’m capable of some true nonsense. Battle anime has truly rotted my sense of taste.
If I had to keep mass-producing Beach Knight sequels at a dangerous pace like a mangaka, I could probably survive the way they do, by reducing the story to nothing but a long chain of drawn out battles.
I’m not going to do that. But I could. I totally could.
I’m not sure if that’s the kind of thing people like to read. There is probably an audience for shonen battle novels somewhere out there, but I’m not sure I know where to find it.
Write what you know, I guess.
Today’s writing tip: What’s the worst, darkest and most horrible plot twist you could include in your story? How would your characters react to that situation? Your answer will tell you a lot about them as people.
