Uneven Chapters

Creator Journals 7/29/25

I woke up really excited to write today, and indeed, I’m proud to report I’m 2k words into chapter eight, which is shaping up to be just as long as the previous two!

I’ve run into just one main snag. The later chapters in my book are becoming significantly longer than the early chapter. I suppose that’s fine, but I’ve always been a big fan of symmetry.

When I do my next round of revisions, I’ll probably see if there’s anything I can reasonably expand on. I don’t want to simply add bulk without substance, especially since the first few chapters are more like tone setters and have less actual plot. All the same, maybe I can add a bit more action. The one critique I’ve received from my first readers is that the first chapter is a bit slow.

I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a writer in the past few months. Blogging daily has really helped. I highly recommend it.

Look forward to a new poem tomorrow.

Today’s writing tip: Try to get inside the reader’s head. How will this scene make them feel? How can you set up the emotional payoff with your word choice?

Success! You're on the list.
