Creator Journals 7/18/25
The creative portion of this day has been spent with D&D prep. I haven’t written any fiction, but I have my game Saturday and I want to sand down all the rough edges. I feel good about my worldbuilding and my characters. Running D&D is interesting for me, because it’s like writing in real time, only, I don’t get to control the main characters. Good practice to overcome the perfectionist instinct. Like, these are the characters you get. Letting them tell their own story is the goal. You just facilitate that process. Honestly, it would probably be good practice for any writer, although this game system is obviously built for fantasy settings, so a romance or mystery author might not have as easy of a time with improv.

I’ll fit some Beach Knight in later today if I get the chance, but I don’t know if I will. I’m just happy that all of my creative muscles seem to be working right. I’m getting fewer headaches and I’m actually deriving dopamine from the process. Glorious!
See you tomorrow!
Today’s writing tip: If part of your story is blocking you up or slowing you down, put in a filler sentence and come back later.
