The Baddest

Creator Journals 7/14/25

I have some real momentum lately.

I just went on a creative thinking walk to try and shore up my villain’s main motivation. The villain in Beach Knight is a particularly sinister one. On some level, I want them to be so villainous that the reader won’t want to relate to them. On another level, I think everyone does what they do for a reason. But the crimes these particular antagonists commit are more heinous than those of my usual villains, since this is a bit of a crime drama. Ideally, I think a villain can serve as a sort of warning, a depiction of a truly slippery slope. “This could be you if you aren’t careful, dear reader.” but the monsters at the end of this story are also very alien to our human sensibilities.

Really, I’m not fully sure what I’m going for. I think I’ll know when I get there. I know I’ll know when I get there.

Either way, it will be a dreadful good time.

Today’s writing tip: Find the activities that stimulate your creative thought and be sure to do them a lot. Going on walks does that for me.

Success! You're on the list.
