What can I say about Thefwin Peachwillow that wouldn’t spoil the story. Well, first off, she’s not a major character. She’s a character I made specifically to fit a role in a chapter that required a large and diverse cast. She’s an elf, but she’s an elf that leans into her racial traits more than the elf we follow as a protagonist, Kiyo Rowanwood, meaning she’s peaceful, demure and somewhat detached.
I’ve made a habit of giving elves arboreal surnames. That was never planned as a rule, it’s just something I’ve sort of done a lot. The half-elf Edreimlecheth has the surname “Zeichliumef” in The Kingdom’s Disdain. Maybe half-elves get different surnames. Maybe since their blood is impure, they don’t get to be Sprucebranch or Peachwillow. Who knows.
I like Thefwin’s chemistry with the other characters so far, so I may upgrade her role from extra to secondary-character, like Garen Loreshaw and Chief Bloodstone, and the nonbinary orc.
While writing all this, I’ve been trying to get to the root of the matter, trying to figure out why Thefwin Peachwillow merits discussion, but I’m not sure I got anywhere. She’s just a character I ended up enjoying. Maybe I will have further epiphanies later.

Today’s writing tip: Try not to know what you’re doing. If you try too hard to know what you’re doing, the whole writing process gets boring.
