Head Full of Projects

Creator Journals 7/2/25

I’m hot off a writing streak. Just pounded out a thousand words for chapter 6. I’m introducing a lot of my side characters in this chapter. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to cram so many introductions into one chapter, but also, I think it could be a neat challenge.

I’ve been taking stock of all my various writing projects. I’m a little annoyed because Beach Knight was supposed to be this kind of quick, manic sprint of a project, but it’s turning into a more long-term work. I always dream of being able to just spit a complete novel out, but that has never really been my reality.

I’ve also got the rough draft for “Flydragon” sitting on my back burner. It’s a fantasy political drama that follows a dragon priest as he tries to prevent a series of murders in Aldroy Castle. I really like the rough draft, but it took a lot of work and I kind of burned myself out on it. The story also feels incomplete without the sequel; Flydragon Act II, and I only have an outline for that.

Then, of course, there’s The Kingdom’s Disdain book 11; Circles. Plotwise, it’s kind of a breather when compared to the brisk pace of book 10, but it’s also kind of a sober character piece that focuses in on the inner turmoil of one particular orcish antihero. I have a rough draft for that, and I really want to publish it this year.

These are just the main projects I have planned in my immediate future. I’ve also got another spinoff lined up, a free short story for email subscribers, several podcasts and “Who Wants to Live Forever” which I’ve talked about before. There’s so much I want to do, and I wish I had the time and energy for it. But good art often means slowing down. Today I wrote 1k words, and they were good words. Today, that’s enough.

What’s driving you mad today?

Today’s writing tip: It’s okay to say “I’ll write this part later” and move on. Sometimes that’s the only way to maintain your essential momentum.
