Creator Journals 7/1/25
July has begun. Summer is upon us. It really feels like Spring just ended, but oh well.
Today I was supposed to do a lot of outlining. Admittedly, I only did a little bit of outlining. Better than nothing, I guess. For whatever reason, my mind and body really didn’t want to write at all today, but by gum I will make my blog post. I haven’t missed one in 66 days and this will not be my undoing.
My mind and body have been in a kind of fog over the last few days. Coffee isn’t pulling me out of it. I’m concerned because I have a very busy work weekend coming up. I just feel like laying in bed for three or four days, but I doubt even that would fix it. I think I just need to wait it out.
I’m working on adding unique phrases and speech quirks to all of the main characters. I have a file called “Beach Knight Character Primer” where I list a bunch of the details on writing their POVs. Some characters are more attuned to certain senses, the visual, the olfactory, etc. Some characters initiate their segments by describing their internal feelings, while some describe their outward surroundings.
It’s fun stuff, and it’s something I’ve used in a lot of my other books too.
But that’s enough work for today.
I’m going to fade back into the mist now.
Today’s writing tip: If you get bored of your own story, start thinking about things that interest you and find ways to put them in.
