I realize this is a late one, but I’ll be damned if I miss a day of blogging. I haven’t missed a day in 50 days, which is honestly crazy for me. Also, the sun is still out here in the nation of Ohio.
Today was Father’s Day, so my wife and I spent the day with her father. We went to a driving range and went to see the new Karate Kid movie (even though we are not caught up on Cobra Kai. Is this an MCU thing at this point? Do I need to watch all the shows in order to understand the movies?) But it was really entertaining.
One theme, perhaps even an accidental one, that stuck out to me was the persistence of evil. The Karate Kid in this movie had a truly traumatic life, full of drama and hardship. Most of that hardship was caused by various individuals who sought to use their power, by that monetary power or physical strength, to oppress and abuse others.
I thought that was a really strong theme. This kid didn’t really have a singular, central antagonist, but his life was full of people who kept being hurt and abused. In the end, he needed to learn to fight. He needed to arm himself. I think that’s what we all have to do. We all must master our own specific skills in the struggle against earthly and cosmic evil.
