Creator Journals 6/14/25

I have a few days off this weekend and I’m determined to finish typing chapter 5! As I type this now, I’m a little over halfway through what I estimate to be a 6k word chapter. I pray this momentum can continue, because I really want to get this book out in the summer, even if it’s at the end of summer.

I really like the story so far, but I think finding the right audience could be a challenge. It’s fantasy, but not high fantasy, more like a comedic crime procedural that happens to be set in a fantasy world. And there is probably more slapstick comedy and action than there is mystery. Beach Knight is really just my own sort of passion project. I wanted to write something kind of goofy, and a story about a strange knight guarding a beach felt right for that. I’m continuing to fall in love with the characters, and I hope you all will too!

I think I probably need to spend some time researching seaside medieval cities and their architecture. What I’m imagining in my head is actually fairly modern, and I need to work on that. Some anachronism can be fun, when it’s intentional, but I don’t like to write anachronistically as a default.

Keep up with the times!
