Creator Journals 6/12/25

I wrote a paragraph I really liked today, and I wish I could have kept the streak going, but work, work, work. After work I’m usually too tired to write much. I’m hoping my job calms down soon.

I’ve been thinking about villains lately. What makes them interesting?

For me, I like when they have a good reason for what they’re doing, or at least a reason that makes sense to them, allowing the reader to briefly enter their shoes and think “Wow! I could end up thinking like this if I’m not careful!” That’s way more interesting to me than a mustache-twirling strawman that only exists as an obstacle. Of course, I still like my villains to have style and to take pleasure in their acts of evil. I like to think every one of them could have the capacity to write and perform their own Disney style villain songs.

If anything, I tend to be guilty of focusing on villains more than heroes. That’s kind of how I’ve always been.

I’ve got more to say, but also a lot more to do today, so I’ll probably talk about it more tomorrow.

Stay evil!
