It’s a Sunday and my wife is playing Devil May Cry 2 again. She says it might be her favorite. What have I done?
Since it’s Sunday the only writing I’m doing is on this blog. I’m excited to start my One Hour Challenge on Monday. I think whatever happens, I’ll learn a lot. I’ve also been audiobooking a lot of fantasy light novels. While I definitely think reading the traditional way is better and more educational than listening to an audiobook, I like to get the tone and cadence of writers I like in my head. It personally helps me a lot with my own style.
In Beach Knight I’m going with a third person limited POV, which is a change for me since The Kingdom’s Disdain is all first person. Each of my three POV characters has a different tone, voice and even genre, but that tone is kind of used to flavor the narrator’s description of things. This isn’t really anything new or revolutionary, it’s just not really the way I’m used to doing things. The characters also have some pretty serious biases that make them deeply flawed. For instance, one of my characters is a bright-elf who has a lot of assumptions about other races. One of my characters struggles with some fairly sexist ideas about women (I sure hope he learns his lesson, but maybe he won’t) I enjoy making my characters really flawed.
I’ll probably talk about that more tomorrow, right now my wife is getting killed by this really big demon who shoots lasers out of his mouth.
Defeat your demons.
