Creator Journals 5/4/25

Today is my birthday, so I’m going to make this quick.

I like to compare people’s personalities to classical elements. I have a friend who is very stable, reliable and consistent, like earth. Me, on the other hand, I’m passionate, eager, warm, but my energy fluctuates a lot, so I see myself as a fire.

Writing, or any act of creation, needs to be sustainable. If I were to pour all of my attention, intention, spirit and effort into writing my story I would burn out quickly. Breaks are important. Rest is important. It’s also important to choose a sustainable subject matter. I’ve learned that the hard way. Before I begin a project, I try to make sure the subject is one that is interesting enough to last me the duration of my writing time.

I have a pretty short attention span, which is something I always have to struggle against. I need to put enough shiny things in my outline to keep my lizard brain entertained. I have a short attention span, so I also write for people who have short attention spans, because somebody has to stand up for us lizards.
Anyway, if you like me and my writing consider picking up The Kingdom’s Disdain, that’s my birthday request. Until then, enjoy national Star Wars Day or whatever.

May the lizards and the force be with you!
