A poem inspired by The Muse of Cold Earth.
No Sleep
Keep your eyes peeled
Lest the shadows unfuse from the night dark and come upon you
Solid vacancy
Midnight keeper of a cage full of black birds
They don’t really sing. It’s a natural mating call that we compare to music
Just like day and nightfall, which only exist in the relation to big pieces of stone and fire
Orphaned in space
But there’s someone watching me when the fire goes out
Hell calls and I don’t pick up
I let the phone ring with thunderous cackles until
Sunrise
When I’m blinded by the lights
Unable to see the devil in the passing lane
Driving the speed limit
Waiting for me to blink too long and crash
