Weird Dreams Daily 12 “Dream Chronicle 2”

Hello, I’m author, jean wearer obsessive compulsive human, Paul Lang. This is my daily blog.

It’s the first day of Fall, which means that by all definitions, the Spooky Season has begun. I thought it might be fun to talk about a spooky dream I had one time, because why not?

Anyone who knows me well knows I have a lot of bad dreams. If Carl Jung’s beliefs about the existence of the collective unconscious are to be believed, I may be collecting other people’s bad dreams. That would explain a lot. Anyway, I have a lot of nightmares, but this one I had back in the fall of 2017 was a doozy.

This dream occurred in a world of shadows. This is not the first dream I’ve had in the shadow world. I’ve had a few nightmares in this setting. In the Shadow World, all people are shadows. All dialogue is reduced to low mumbling. The time is constantly midnight, everyone is tired, and all lights are dim. Not my favorite place.

In this dream, I believed it was my duty to conquer the world, as, in some way, I perceived that I had been wronged. I was an evil genius and . . . oh yeah, I was born without eyes. So, I was an evil Shakespearean mastermind made out of shadows who had no eyes, you following so far?

There was a way for me to have eyes, however. Whenever I faced a mirror, my reflection had eyes and could see for me.

Imagine, if you will, a scene. The stage is a vast, abandoned dance hall, circular in build and rimmed all around with mirrors. Two conspirators are standing side by side, plotting some ambiguous scheme. They are standing next to each other. I am the mastermind. My co-conspirator stands beside me, and we’re both looking into the mirror. In the mirror we are both reflected, but my image is different, starring back expressionless with two huge, veiny, unblinking eyes.

I was being hunted by a mysterious figure made of green mist, and, while I did everything in my considerable power to escape her, she eventually caught me, and the dream ended.

So, I hope that’s one of the Jungian ones that comes from the collective, otherwise, I should probably tell my therapist about it. Have a good day! Happy spooky season!
